    Nest Doorbell Camera

Installation with the wedge was simple, doorbell camera works extremely well and has replaced my Ring doorbell camera, my observations are that the Google camera has faster motion detection than the Ring camera and the picture is also much better, however I find that the Ring camera had much better battery life, like for like use has me charging the Google camera every 3 weeks whilst the Ring camera was in need of a charge every 5 or 6 weeks.Motion zones are easy to set up and also receiving alerts only within the zones are easily achieved.Ring are generally cheaper although my opinion is that the Google doorbell looks better.Reason for changing from Ring was the lack of support for Google Home and assistant, which I find better than Alexa but I would say they are both very good Doorbell cameras, the subscription for one camera is also £1 a month cheaper with ring although £3 aonth cheaper with Google if you have multiple cameras, I’d therefore suggest that the main choice comes down to which smart home assistant you wish to use

Great door bell backed by great app

It’s a great door bell with good quality video and it can connect to your existing google devices like google speakers and nest hub screen for notifications. You can also select the zone to monitor and get movement notifications in that zone directly on your phone. It can also detect familiar faces and you can give them name in the app settings. You can also keep an eye on battery level of the door bell and answer on bell through microphone of your phone or reply by prerecorded messages. Very happy with buy. The only thing that should be improved is notifications delay which should be almost instant.

  3. Mr Smith

Simple to use. No subscription required

Very pleased with my purchase. Very easy to set up and use. The battery life lasts ages. The camera picture and sound are both very clear. Real time answer works really well. Love how the Google home speakers can be used as the door bell chime, to alert you that someone is at the door. The battery life is also fantastic. If you’re on the fence about which doorbell to get, you won’t go far wrong with this one.

    Nest doorbell battery

General picture quality is good but when picture is zoom in quality is poor can not read number plate of passing cars not good for a product that over £100

  5. Aoife

    Really impressed.

Really happy with the nest doorbell. I’ve had two each of the Ring and Ring 2, and I had to return all of them for various issues. Poe battery life awful image quality, unreliable wifi etc. not had any of these issues with the Nest bell. Yes, it’s more expensive than a a Ring, but you also don’t have to pay a monthly fee to use it to its full potential. I can’t compare it to other devices such as blink and Eufy, but if you’re unsure about which decide to spring for, you won’t be disappointed with the Nest.

  6. Topdog

    Kind of disappointed

I’ve used the nest doorbell original wired one for a few years but unfortunately it started blowing up the plugs I used to run it. The biggest problem with the new battery powered one is the viewing angle. Both old and new have a bracket to set the viewing angle but the new one is not the same angle. For our use case when installed an inch from the door (where the old was mounted) it can’t see the person at the door. It’s almost like the camera is zoomed in but just looks past the person. I’ve since found a new mounting bracket with adjustable angle (3rd party) but given the price of this it’s a bit poor. The other issue is the previous nest doorbell used the nest app the new nest doorbell uses the Google home app which isn’t as good (you can’t see previews of multiple cameras as you could in the nest app, there is also no web interface which there was with the nest app). On top of all of this most features are hidden behind subscriptions of either 6 or 12 dollars a month, thats a bit much given the camera itself is not cheap. These features used to be free with the original but have since switched to subscription, seems like you were incentivised to buy into the nest/Google ecosystem but then get the rug pulled out after the initial investment.

    Great so far

I brought this after returning my Eufy doorbell because it just did not work, even after a replacement. Since setting it up, it’s worked great. The only slight downside I’ve noticed is that the image quality is not that great when it rains, it seems like drops of water on the lens effects the image quality more than it did on the Eufy one I had before.

A great doorbell if it’s suit your need

I bought a budget doorbell that manufacturerd in China but its not working properly so I decided to purchase a Google wireless doorbell instead. As a top range one, the picture quality is good, motion detection works fine, battery life decent even it works well with Alexa. But the problem is, the Google home app only provide push notifications with no sound & vibration, means the doorbell works great when you are at home but NOT when you are out. It also not compatible with my Samsung smartphone, it not allow me to speak with someone who press the bell over my phone. Such an expensive doorbell I think Google should do better, what a shame that I have to return it.

    Brilliant idea

Dont know why we didnt biy sooner. This is does what it says on the tin. Can see people etc in your street at your door and even speak to them. The picture quality is also great

  10. MR T

An ease to install and setup

All I say is this is so easy to setup and get working as you want it to. Adding family members, setting zones and notifications all super easy. I had a Ring doorbell before this one, and to be honest that was a complete nightmare!!!!Well done Google this beats the Ring product hands down.

    Pretty useless as a doorbell

We bought this mainly for the camera to check who was coming in and out of the house when we were away to cat sit. When it’s working, it does the job of alerting us when people come and go.However, as a doorbell it’s really not much use. The alert on your phone is quiet and there seems to be no way to change the volume. The alert on the Nest speaker we bought so it ‘rings’ in the house is even quieter, and on a delay. So, you’re very lucky if you actually hear it and catch someone trying to deliver a parcel! It took a VERY long time to set up, set the zones, get it to ‘ring’ on the nest speaker etc. The battery lasts about a week. If you can get a wired one it must be better.

    Looks good, works well

Good camera, not annoying. Was worried about battery life and the annoyance of having to charge the battery but it’s not too bad. Battery lasts 3+ weeks (after changing the setting so it was no longer triggered by people walking down the street) and the while charging UX is good. For example, when it’s fully charged you get a notification.

    Great product and recommended

Easy to fit and set up. Good picture. Seems that the doorbell constantly works to recognise all movement, even just outside the zone that you set and as a result the battery drains quickly unless you are very careful with zone

  14. Andy Earnshaw

    Good functionality, but flawed

I’m happy with this overall. The picture quality is good, the battery life is decent, but there are a few issues that let it down.Firstly, the free tier of Nest Aware is very bad. You only get 3 hours of video retention, which is useless for catching events while you are asleep or away. It’s obviously intentional, as they want you to subscribe, but I don’t really want to pay £7.99 per month for my doorbell for 30 days retention when 12 or 24 hours is enough. I’d pay about half that for something in between, but I feel like there is no value for money in the subscription as it is.The motion sensor also lets it down a bit. Sometimes it only catches the end of an event, even if some of it happens in full view of the camera.Despite the issues, it’s been a great purchase. The dog no longer goes mental when someone is at the door because the smart speaker announcement is similar to broadcast messages. I can see that my 18 year old daughter got in safely during the night without disturbing her if she’s been out partying and I can answer the door when I’m not home.

    Battery is useless

As I have gone down the google route in the house and my front doorbell stopped working for some reason I thought it was time to join the rest a get a video doorbell. Nothing wrong with this product, you have all the features you need…………..however you do not get told how short the battery lasts. I am charging this ever 3 days, which is rubbish. It does come with connectors to have it run off electricity and if you can do that this product would be fantastic. I am unable to and stuck with an overpriced doorbell that needs to keep being charged.

    Great smart doorbell overall

Overall the Nest Doorbell is top quality, great smart features for it being being battery powered and the zones and facial detection are excellent. Only issue I have is the battery life is no where near long enough. We are getting about 2 weeks it seems from a full charge which I do expect to be much longer. Also the picture quality is not amazing, but it does the job.Night vision is crystal clear and the audio recording is very good too. Sometimes too good as it picks up sounds actually in the house!

    Easy to install and use

I have been in the market for a video doorbell for a while. The nest battery doorbell appealed to me for several reasons.1. Installation: as it’s battery powered, there is no need for running cables or messing around with transformers. I just had to drill a few holes in the door frame to install it! (You can wire it up if you want to)2. Google home: I already have a few Google home devices so this fits in perfectly. I can see who is at the door on tv with chrome cast and have the speakers around the house announce a visitor.3. Price: this compares really favourably with other products. Some other things I discovered after buying were:- it’s really easy to set zones so you don’t record things you don’t want like the neighbours!- somehow it recognises cars, animals and people- an angled bracket is included to help point the camera where you want it which was very helpful- there is very little lag between motion detection and a notification- the battery life seems really good but if you have maximum quality recording and record every little bit of movement then I suspect it won’t last very long- you can quickly save video clips to your mobile from the Google home app- night vision is decentA few drawbacks are:- you only get events for the last three hours saved in the cloud for free unless you pay £5 a month and then it’s 30 days- if you want to check the camera it can take several seconds to connect- I wouldn’t recommend it if you have mainly Alexa devicesOverall, I am happy with it.

    Works very well indeed.

This product is very easy to connect to your wi fi . It is simple to fix to your door. Works perfectly, you can see everything that happens. As,I live close to a main road and a bus stop, I do not use the motion detection. But you can hear every sound. As, I live in a first floor flat, and I am disabled, I find this very helpful.

    Get a ring doorbell

If you want to be alerted for motion, get a ring doorbell, this only sends person, package etc notifications to your phone, and even then, only if it thinks it’s important enough. What a waste of time and money. I even tried getting a nest mini to see if it was just the amazon devices it refused to announce AI detected motion on, nope, its all of them. Back and forward with Google support and Amazon, even got a replacement. There is nothing to be done, it’s not a feature and they don’t intend on adding it.

    Brilliant for Elderly parents.

Ideal for full time carers who have to leave there elderly parent for 10 minutes. Especially if parent has dementia you can keep track of them if they leave house you will know.

    Ding Dong

Great quality picture and fantastic sound quality, the show on the hub automatically when the doorbell is pushed is a great feature as you don’t have to ask for it to be displayed. It’s the main reason that I purchased this device.

    Overpriced for limited function

Battery life is shocking despite changing settings and limiting the detection area. Clips hardly ever actually work or allow you to view them properly, events completely disappear (understand the full recordings only staying for 3 hours but the events themselves is ridiculous). The mount mechanism is awful and has already resulted in it falling on the floor and being scuffed. The notifications through the home speakers is hit and miss. Overally I wish I’d saved my money and just gone with ring or one of the other cheaper options.

    Disappointment

Had high hopes for this and was initially impressed with the features and ease of installation etc.BUT… the push notification sound on an iPhone is the same as a text message and cannot be changed (see Google Nest community for similar complaints) which means that unless you constantly check your phone you can’t tell if it is your doorbell or a text. Also there is a delay of a couple of minutes between the bell being rung and the notification arriving. Would have expected better from Google. Amazon return was very easy – thanks!

Great clarity and picture quality for the price

Easy to install and the wedge is a great positioning tool when the door reveal blocks camera coverage. Picture quality is fantastic and for the price I am very pleased.

When wired, doesn’t charge the battery!

There is a fundamental flaw with this doorbell. It needs to be charged regularly, even if you wire it to an AC supply as the installation instructions say. Even though it says it’s plugged in, the battery goes flat with normal use. This is a design fault – don’t buy one of these, you’ll regret it!

DONT BUY IT. Terrible battery life even when wired

Extremely waste of money. Google should make product so insulated that cold temperatures shouldn’t affect battery life. The doorbell will die quickly and not charge at all even when wired. Their Excuse: temperature is cold. Who has time to keep removing the doorbel to charge? Why wire it then? Battery would die every 2 days. Initially if was 2 to 3 weeks.

    Disappointing

The battery on this thing doesn’t last at all – and there aren’t many events that it captures to justify that. The night vision is really poor and although it’s really close to the router, it always goes offline. I’ve wasted my money on this thing…

    Great when it actually works

Works sometimes, other times it just goes offline and won’t connect. I have 1gb Internet so extremely fast and the Internet is strong in its placement. So tbh don’t think its a great product. Wouldn’t recommend at all.

What a waste of time and money

I bought the google nest doorbell to work with my other nest products, picture is great, video is clear, motion detection is great – only problem? It doesn’t bloody ring! There’s a known bug that google seems to be ignoring that for some people the chime is greyed out so you don’t know someone is at the door unless you are looking at your phone constantly. I will be returning it for a ring doorbell

    Not a door bell

    Good choice of battery doorbell

This is not my first Nest device so made sense to stick to the same ecosystem with one subscription. Fairly large in size because of the battery but very easy to install. The motion sensor which can specifically detect people is accurate and the doorbell is compatible with other google enabled devices. I also understand that if the device is stolen, Google will replace it for free though haven’t needed to do that yet!The only downside is battery life. Mine is saying will need recharged in 4 weeks and it’s pretty quiet here. There are other doorbells which are significantly longer so if battery life is a potential issue, maybe worth looking elsewhere

Good camera, gave us the cover we needed.

Great camera that’s easy to set up and connects in with our other Google products.Good picture quality and motion detection, great you can adjust where it saves. One thing to note if you looking at the camera is that like the ring camera etc. To save videos and history you need the nest aware package. (It’s about £50 annually so not terrible value!)Otherwise it only allows you to check the last 3 hour software events.

    Not too bad

The only thing I don’t particularly like about this product is the delay and how quick it is (or isn’t) to open the video feed. You miss around 30 seconds ish. Other than that it does what I want it to do

    What a difference

I have had a ring doorbell for years and finally decided to upgrade to the Google doorbell. What an amazing difference in picture quality. So much clearer and the fact it recognised different people so tells me who is at the door as well is great Highly recommended.

Good doorbell that fits i niche in the market

I had tried the Eufy doorbells, but they are very large and the quality is pretty tacky. This in contrast is a better design with better materials. Without subscription the 3 hour window for events if fine for us, it is better than Ring and even though it is limited, suited us better than the Eufy implementation . I have my Sonos beam hooked up and it notifies me when the doorbell is pressed along with phone notifications. It is vital to support unique notification sounds in the future though. The Sonos voice notification is almost immediate with the phone taking a few seconds longer. The battery life was a around 3 months for us, but this will be determined by how much activity there is within range. Not keen on the Amazon eco system, and needed a “trusted” solution, this has been the perfect fit for us

Battery, but you can wire it in and never have to charge

This one is the real game changer. Unlike the wired versions, this one has a battery but can also be wired in, which means it gets a trickle charge. The benefit of this? In the UK most of our doorbell systems at 8v and most wired smart doorbells need 12v at least, so you have to change your transformer. Not the case here. And it still triggers your internal door chime (if you have one), winner.Really easy to install, great instructions in the Google homes app, and it works seamlessly with all the Google homes devices we have. If you’re in the Google Home eco system then this is one to get (looks so much better than the other offerings on the market too).

    better than ring

was debating what to go for this or ring but i’m happy i choose this. works every time someone presses and video quality and sound is very good also the detection features, i have it wired to 12v so can’t comment on battery life

No individual alert tone for door bell press on iphone

It works, but what they don’t tell you is that it will not send a “Ring” alert tone to your iphone when pressed, it just gives you the standard tone, which the iphone uses for everything else, so it’s very easy to miss when somebody rings the bell. I have been onto Google support and they have confirmed this.

Good video feed but fails as a doorbell

Having been impressed by a eufy doorbell at a relatives place I decided to buy a nest doorbell. Once it arrived it became apparent that there was no receiver to chime so I had to purchase a hub. Fine I thought, and so £45 later I had a hub and all set up. The video feed is good and the notifications that someone is approaching do work. The disappointment is that the system is not instant. Takes a good 5-10 seconds from pressing the button to the hub responding that the bell has been rung. All the smart features may well be good, but it fails to be an effective doorbell

    It’s not Nest, it’s Google

Works fine, quite easy to install. But I bought it as I have other Nest products and it doesn’t work with them. Doesn’t appear on the Nest App, only the Google app, which is terrible. Apparently the battery version won’t work with the Mini to make announcements like my last one (wired) would so I have to rely on hearing the tiniest little “ping” on my phone when someone’s at the door. Overall, it works but is a MASSIVE dissapointment.

    Google Nest Doorbell (Battery)

After my doorbell had broken, I chose to upgrade to a video doorbell because I have many google nest speakers in every room of my house, including a digital screen in my home office. Buying this just made sense, and was a simple case of adding it to my google home app.It was easy to install and set up, and the clarity of the camera is first rate, with the option of bypassing the doorbell to simply view outside at any time. The additional night vision is amazing, giving you crystal clear black and white vision, and the versatility of the various motion sensors gives peace of mind. GREAT BUY.

Poor video quality even on max, lack of software function

Poor video quality, don’t believe it’s anywhere like HD more like 480 maybe 720 at best. Poor software settings, find it hard understand why Google accepted this level of programming form their design team its missing a lot of functionality other brands have. Really expensive compared to a ring door bell which is a lot better in almost all ways, (i.e. camerate and settings). It does have a nice astheticand it is easier to setup however.

    Fundamentally flawed

Cutting to the chase, I was having issues with my Google doorbell connecting to my Google Home devices and, therefore, missing people ringing my doorbell. On contacting Google, they told me the devices needed to operate on the same WiFi frequency (2.4GHz or 5GHz) – however, there is no way in the devices themselves to select the frequency so, unless you have another means of ensuring your devices are on the same frequency (only 1 frequency, different names for the frequencies etc) there’s a good chance the systems won’t connect. Google need to resolve this. Mine has been returned.

Seems very good. Very liked 3hr video storage so need to subscribe.

    Don’t buy this

Upgraded from the previous nest hello. The quality isn’t the same and the field of view is way smaller. Even though it’s connected to mains power, the battery is being used.Secondly you have to use the Google home app which isn’t the best is clunkier and unintuitive. I regret buying this. Not happy as this feels like a downgrade and not an upgrade. AVOID!

    Good product

I bought it as a doorbell to go with my Google smart speakers and screen battery is great except when you use motion detection then the battery will deminish very quickly I have no use for that feature at the moment quite happy with it as a doorbell night vision is exalerlent so is picture quality

The camera is really good but as a doorbell it doesn’t work

I already have lots of Nest devices smoke alarm x2, thermostat and security camera, so I decided to stay with the same ecosystem. The Doorbell was really easy to setup but it wouldn’t let me add it to the existing Nest App and I had to use the Google Home App. After setting it up I found that I only got a normal notification when the doorbell was rung on my Apple phone. On the Android App the same but you can configure the App to make a door bell noise. After going through this setup with the Android phone, when the phone is in sleep mode the notifications stopped. After looking at the forums I re-installed the App it provided notifications once and then stopped working again. After reading lots of threads on the Google Home support forums this issues is common and has not been resolved for some considerable time and the support does not seem to be so good since Google took over from Nest. After several hours I put the Camera back in the box and returned it to Amazon. I then purchased a Ring Doorbell which worked straight out the box with no problems and was a lot cheaper.
